Separation of Ageing and Moisture Impacts on Transformer Insulation Degradation by Polarisation
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper describes an accelerated ageing experiment of transformer oil/paper insulation with preset moisture levels. These samples were tested with return voltage and polarisation/depolarisation measurements. Molecular weight has also been measured with Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC). Results suggested the impact of moisture on the ageing of oil/paper insulation. An attempt has been made regarding the separation of ageing and moisture on oil/paper insulation using the dielectric polarisation measurements.

Investigating the impacts of ageing and moisture on dielectric response of oil/paper insulation systems
The oil/paper insulation system in a transformer degrades under various chemical, thermal and electromechanical stresses during its operation. Dielectric response measurements like the Return Voltage Measurement (RVM) and Polarisation and Depolarisation Current (PDC) measurement are currently being used for condition assessment of the insulation. In the current research project, the ageing cond...

Frequency Response Analysis (FRA) is popular technique which has been used since the last decade as a diagnostic method for transformers. However, accurate interpretation of FRA measurements is still challenging. Recent studies reveal that apart from winding deformation, FRA data can also be influenced by moisture variation in transformer paper insulation. Hence, a specific transformer’s model ...

Cellulosic paper and oil insulation in a transformer degrade at higher operating temperatures. Degradation is accelerated in the presence of oxygen and moisture. Power transformers being expensive items need to be carefully monitored throughout its operation. Well established time-based maintenance and conservative replacement planning is not feasible in a current market driven electricity indu...
متن کاملEstimation of Moisture in Transformer Insulation Using Dielectric Frequency Response Analysis by Heuristic Algorithms
Transformers are one of the most valuable assets of power systems. Maintenance and condition assessment of transformers has become one of the concerns of researchers due to huge number of transformers has been approached to the end of their lifetimes. Transformer’s lifetime depends on the life of its insulation and the insulation’s life is strongly influenced by its moisture attraction as well....

Preventative diagnosis and maintenance of transformers has become more popular in recent times in order to improve the reliability of electric power systems. A number of transformers have recently been tested using Return Voltage (RV) and Dielectric Dissipation Factor (tanδ) measurements in the time and frequency domain, respectively. This paper outlines a circuit model which describes the diel...
